West Virginia filing proposes phased-in cost recovery to minimize rate impact;company plans to file in Virginia in the coming weeks
COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 18, 2007 – A proposed Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) clean-coal power plant in New Haven, W.Va., could be completed in mid-2012 at the earliest at a cost of approximately $2.23 billion if appropriate regulatory approvals are obtained in West Virginia and Virginia without delays, according to testimony filed with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) today by Appalachian Power, an operating subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP).

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 13, 2006 – Columbus Southern Power Company and Ohio Power Company, subsidiaries of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) doing business as AEP Ohio, have scheduled a public informational meeting in Meigs County, Ohio, in connection with the companies' previously announced plans to build and operate a new clean-coal technology power plant in Meigs County.

Appalachian Power yesterday filed an application with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia seeking authority to construct a 600-megawatt Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) electric generating unit in West Virginia. The proposed power plant would be located next to the company's Mountaineer Plant near New Haven in Mason County.

General Electric and Bechtel alliance to begin front-end engineering and design process for AEP's proposed IGCC plant
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 29, 2005 - American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) has signed an agreement with GE Energy and Bechtel Corporation to begin the front-end engineering design process for a commercial-scale, Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) clean-coal plant in the 600-megawatt range. This will be the first such engineering and design agreement undertaken for an IGCC plant of this scale.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb 10, 2005 - American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) has asked PJM Interconnection, an independent electric transmission provider, to evaluate transmission interconnection feasibility for three potential sites being considered by AEP for a commercial-scale Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) clean-coal power plant, the first of its size in the country.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 31, 2004 - American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) today released the report of an independent subcommittee of AEP's Board of Directors affirming that AEP is well-positioned to effectively manage future proposed emission constraints because of prudent actions the company has taken. A three-member, ad hoc subcommittee completed the assessment and report as part of a previously announced agreement with The Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds and other shareholders in response to a shareholder proposal filed for consideration at AEP's 2004 Annual Meeting.

IGCC turns coal into a gas, and then removes impurities from the coal gas before it is combusted.
