SPP Investment Potential

AEP is assisting the Southwest Power Pool to evaluate proposals to address congestion and reliability issues
In June 2006, The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) requested that AEP submit a proposal that would help address congestion, reliability & access for new generation within the SPP service area.

AEP submitted a proposal in July 2006 that would call for the development of six new 765-kV transmission lines, representing more than 600 miles of line running from Arkansas to Wichita, Kansas.

If fully realized, the proposal would involve an investment of approximately $3 billion and would improve transfer capability in the region by 4,000 megawatts.

SPP is now evaluating AEP’s proposal as well as other options. AEP continues to work with SPP to provide technical assistance and support.
