Educators today want to know more about energy, economics, science and the environment.
And they want to share that knowledge to enable young people to meet higher state
education standards.
The AEP Workshops for Educators offer teachers living or teaching in AEP's 11-state
service territory opportunities
to learn and grow professionally in a collegial atmosphere that enhances classroom
teaching. Participants share information and experiences with peers and industry,
academic and governmental representatives in a transdisciplinary, multigrade-level
setting.
Whether you teach pre-school or high school, science or social studies, you'll find
new information, new viewpoints and new ways to approach your curriculum at these
exciting workshops.
The best measure of the workshops' value comes from teachers who have participated
in the workshops:
- "The best and most useful course I've taken as a teacher."
- "The variety of topics, quality of presentations, the individuals who made
presentations, and the fantastic tours were all outstanding."
- "I was glad to see environmental concerns were thoroughly covered."
- "The most memorable educational experience of my life."
Through the years the AEP Workshops for Educators have received numerous third-party
recognitions including a Council for Aid to Education Leaders for Change nomination,
National Environmental Awards Council and Ohio's BEST Practices honors.
Pre-K through grade 12 teachers who reside or teach within the
AEP service territory in Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan,
Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia are given first priority.
Teachers who reside outside the AEP service territory may apply on a conditional
basis, and will be contacted to discuss options for participation. Some restrictions
may apply -- see workshop descriptions for details.
Most workshops are free courtesy of AEP and, in some cases, other sponsors. Some
require tuition for graduate credit. See each workshop description for specific
information. Professional development funds may be available from your school district
to cover graduate tuition.
A nominal, refundable registration fee is required for most workshops; a few have
a nonrefundable registration fee. See each workshop description for details.
Funding for the workshops is provided by AEP and, in some cases, other sponsors.
Teachers may meet and interact with specialists from industry, universities, schools
and governmental agencies. These instructors provide a diverse mix of viewpoints,
experiences and backgrounds.
Most workshops offer one or more exciting field trips. Many workshops offer graduate
credit to participants who complete course requirements.
AEP reserves the right to cancel any workshop that fails to attract a minimum number
of applicants and for which AEP is the sole funding sponsor.
All workshops will be carried out in compliance with the nondiscrimination clause
stated in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
Participants may be eligible for mileage, meal and housing. The type, amount and
availability of reimbursements may vary by workshop. See each workshop description
for specific details.
Where eligible, participants residing more than 30 miles from the workshop site
may receive a mileage reimbursement of 50 cents per mile; those residing more than
45 miles from the workshop may receive lodging and meal reimbursement.
Print an application form for the AEP Workshops for Educators. Note that a few workshops
do not use this form or have a different application deadline. See the individual
workshop description for information on how to apply in those cases. Applications
for a workshop may be accepted until that class is filled at the discretion of the
workshop coordinator and AEP. Check with the workshop contact if in doubt.
