Teacher Vision Grants

Dear Educator,

You have an exciting challenge as a teacher to motivate youth to learn to think creatively, to step into leadership roles and to address the challenges of the future. If adequate funding is all that stands between you and a new classroom adventure, American Electric Power’s Teacher Vision Grant program may help you reach your goals.

Through this grant program, AEP extends a helping hand by combining your talents for teaching and creativity with our resources and our desire to help you make a difference in your students’ lives.

Who Can Apply?
Teachers of pre-K through grade 12 who live or teach in the AEP service area or in communities with major AEP facilities can apply. Priority will be given to educators who have attended AEP Workshops for Educators, National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project training, AEP’s E-LAB projects in Bolivia and Belize, or are affiliated with an AEP school-business partnership.

What Kinds of Projects Will Be Considered?
Any project that has an academic focus and has a goal to improve student achievement will be considered. AEP has a special interest in science, mathematics, technology, electrical safety and the balanced study of energy and the environment.

Grants may be used to purchase equipment, curriculum materials or to provide field trip transportation. Equipment and trips should be just one component of a well-planned project, integrated with other curriculum materials and activities.

Highly regarded projects will incorporate matching funds, community resources, and interdisciplinary or team-teaching projects. Funds may not be used for stipends or meals. Project evaluations and receipts are to be submitted to AEP following the completion of projects. Print or digital pictures may be used to enhance project summaries. AEP may use the photos for publicity purposes.

How to Apply
Complete and return the electronic application by midnight, Oct. 24, 2008. Include an itemized budget of anticipated expenses ranging from $100 to $500. If you have questions, please call Barry Schumann, Community and Education Initiatives Coordinator, at 614-716-1668 or e-mail educate@AEP.com.

The AEP Teacher Vision Grant program accepts grants for consideration annually through the fourth Friday of each October. Review and awarding of grants may take up to three months. Grant recipients are required to submit a project evaluation and related receipts to AEP within a year of receiving a grant.
