Moving Forward

More than two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are reconnecting with families, friends and neighbors to share the special moments in our lives. As the pandemic raged, AEP continued to deliver reliable energy safely to homes and businesses. The AEP Foundation also supported communities across our service footprint with grants recommended by our operating companies.

  • $50,000 to Appalachia Service Project, Inc. in Johnson City, TN, to cover direct construction costs of repairing and weatherizing 10 owner-occupied homes of low-income families in Kanawha County.
  • $50,000 to Zora’s House in Columbus, OH, to support services at the state’s only co-working space and leadership incubator dedicated to cultivating the creativity, scholarship, activism, and leadership of women of color.
  • $300,000 to United Way of the Coastal Bend in Corpus Christi, TX, to assist their partner agencies with relief efforts following the ice storm and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
  • $250,000 to Metropolitan YMCA, Fort Wayne, IN, to provide enrichment activities for youth in STEM, academics, nature exploration, reading, the arts, health and wellness, and character development programs.
  • $20,000 to Kentucky Council on Child Abuse, Inc., in Lexington, KY, to promote community awareness of the positive impact of fatherhood, and to address barriers fathers may face in pursuit of actively supporting their children.
  • $30,000 to Arc Caddo-Bossier's Supported Independent Living Program in Shreveport, LA, to purchase and install security equipment at the apartments for men and women with disabilities, along with other upgrades needed for maximum safety.
  • $50,000 to Youth Services of Tulsa, OK. Inc., to remove barriers for youth ages 17-24 who experience homelessness and put them on the path to self-sufficiency and an independent adulthood.

I am also proud to share that the AEP Foundation took actions that are consistent with our commitment to address racial and social justice. In 2021, the Foundation launched Delivering On the Dream, a five-year, $5 million grant program to fund organizations with programs dedicated to advancing social and racial justice in communities served by American Electric Power.

The first grant recipients are: AppalReD Legal Aid, Prestonburg, KY; Boys and Girls Club, Austin, TX; CASA of Central Virginia, Lynchburg, VA; Catholic Social Services, Columbus, OH; Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, IN; Community Legal Aid Services, Akron, OH; Delta Dental of (Glen Allen) Virginia Foundation; Roanoke Higher Education Center Foundation, Roanoke, VA; Rogers Development Foundation, Rogers, AR; YMCA of Central Ohio, Columbus, OH; YWCA Columbus, OH; Youth Services of Tulsa, OK, Inc.; Zora’s House, Columbus, OH; and three Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Southern University at Shreveport Foundation, Shreveport, LA; Wiley College, Marshall, TX; and Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, TX. Read more at Social & Racial Justice.

So much has changed in the last year that it will take some time getting used to a new way of doing things. Be assured that as we move forward, AEP will be here to keep the power flowing and to support the communities where we live and work.
