Meeting Basic Needs
Clothing, food and a place to call home – these are the building blocks to improve lives and strengthen communities. That’s why AEP invests in organizations dedicated to providing basic needs for disadvantaged people living in the communities we serve.
By supporting Habitat for Humanity chapters across our service territory, we work in partnership with low-income families to build affordable, energy-efficient homes. In Texas and Louisiana, SWEPCO’s Neighbor to Neighbor program helps low-income residents pay energy bills.
Food pantries fill a critical need for people who need more nutritious meals, including fruits and vegetables. AEP’s operating companies help to bridge the food gap and other needs with support to local pantries and missions. For example, Appalachian Power Company provided $24,000 to the Mountain Mission in Charleston, West Virginia. AEP Ohio donated $50,000 to the Field of Hope Community Campus in Vinton, Ohio. A $500,000 AEP Foundation gift to the Community Shelter Board’s Van Buren Center in Columbus, Ohio, supports a variety of homeless/housing services including services to veterans. Working together, our boundless energy can transform our neighbors’ lives.
