Explanation of terms: The 'Forebay' and 'Tailwater' numbers show the elevation, in feet above sea level, of the water levels just upstream and downstream of the plants. 'Tailwater Flow' is the hourly average of the river flow just downstream of the plants, measured in cubic feet per second.

APPALACHIAN POWER OPERATES CLAYTOR HYDRO IN LEVELIZED "RUN OF RIVER" RELEASE FROM APRIL 1ST TO NOVEMBER 30TH AND IN PEAKING MODE FROM DECEMBER 1ST TO MARCH 31ST. FOR SATURDAY 25, 2013, WE ARE CURRENTLY GENERATING WITH THREE UNITS WITH A TOTAL AVERAGE DISCHARGE OF 6463 CFS.
AS OF 05:00 THIS MORNING SATURDAY MAY 25, 2013, INFLOW TO THE SMITH MOUNTAIN PROJECT WAS 2840 AND THE DISCHARGE FROM LEESVILLE 3307 .THE ADJUSTED RESERVOIR ELEVATION WAS 795.34'. THE FLOW RATE AT THE USGS GAUGE AT BROOKNEAL WAS 4690 CFS, STAGE 8.09' AND AT ALTAVISTA 4060 CFS, STAGE 6.41'.
