ReCreation Land is a 60,000-acre outdoor recreation area built on land once strip mined for its rich coal deposits. We have received many awards for this project from environmental and conservation groups for going above and beyond the legal requirements for land reclamation. ReCreation Land offers a number of outdoor activities and is free to the public.
Although the area is free to access, you still need need a permit when visit. You can print off a PDF or go to various locations to pick one up.

Using vigorous reclamation efforts, we turned this former mining territory into a vibrant recreation area by:
- Planting over 63 million trees
- Establishing 350 lakes and ponds stocked for fishing
- Creating 380 campsites
- Creating hiking, mountain bike, and equine trails. The 1200-mile Buckeye Trail also runs through this region.
