Officials of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) said today the company has halted testing of a new emission control technology developed by Thermal Energy International Inc. (CDNX:TMG). The company concluded that - based on data that´s been collected from numerous tests to date - additional laboratory research will be required before the technology will be ready for a full-scale commercial launch.

The Trent Mesa Project, a wind-power generation facility under construction near Abilene, Texas, is being expanded to 150,000 kilowatts of production from 130,000 kilowatts under an agreement between TXU Corp. (NYSE: TXU), the buyer of Trent Mesa´s electricity output, and American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), the builder, owner and operator of the facility.

DNR BANDS LEGS OF FOUR FORT WAYNE FALCONS

American Electric Power (AEP) served as host Friday for the banding of the four peregrine falcon chicks that hatched last month in the nesting box on the roof of One Summit Square in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) placed metal identification bands on the legs of the falcon chicks. The bands will help the DNR keep track of the young birds as they migrate late this summer or in the fall.

AEP APPLIES FOR AUTHORITY TO INSTALL NEW EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ON BIG SANDY UNIT 2

American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has filed a request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission for authority to install a new emission control system on Unit 2 of its Big Sandy generating plant near Louisa, Ky. The control system will reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the 800-megawatt unit by about 90 percent. When in operation, the controls are expected to produce an overall reduction in NOx emissions of between 6,800 and 7,600 tons each ozone season (May through September).

AEP TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION OF EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS AT AMOS, MOUNTAINEER PLANTS AS PART OF ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE PROGRAM

American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) today announced plans to begin construction on new emission control systems at two of its power plants in West Virginia. The controls will reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions on each affected generating unit by about 90 percent. When in operation, the controls are expected to produce an overall reduction in NOx emissions from the two units of approximately 20,000 tons per year.
