With respect to existing facilities, we are constantly working to identify equipment upgrades, enhanced maintenance activities, improved operational procedures and changes in our own corporate culture that will improve performance and remove barriers to new ideas and new thinking.

We believe the effects of efficiency improvements on carbon emissions will be significant. For instance, we’ve determined that -- across our entire fleet -- a one percent improvement in heat rate (a measure of a generating station’s thermal efficiency) can reduce our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 1.6 million tons per year.
