AEP is making significant investments to retrofit existing coal-fired power plants
with equipment that will significantly reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen
oxides. This equipment will provide an added benefit of reducing mercury emissions,
although additional mercury-specific controls are also needed. AEP also is investing
in technology that will reduce carbon emissions.
These investments not only will improve the environment, they will also keep these
low-cost plants producing affordable energy for our customers. The investments will
also enable AEP to continue supporting local economies by providing jobs and tax
revenues and supporting the coal industry.
