Educating the Innovators of Tomorrow

Teaching kids about energy and responsible use of resources is part of AEP’s commitment to support education. We believe science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education holds the promise of future innovations to build stronger communities. We are proud to support programs that supplement classroom learning in fields like agricultural and horticultural technology, robotics and experimental science that encourage exploration, problem-solving and curiosity.

AEP Texas telecom employees held a drone demonstration for kids in a summer STEM program at a community center near Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The program serves students from nearby public schools, some of whom face challenges outside the classroom. The demonstration allowed the kids to learn about science and technology firsthand, promoting creativity and innovation while expanding their knowledge.

PSO's partnership with Future Farmers of America remains strong. We sponsor their annual convention in Tulsa and are the sole sponsors of five regional leadership conferences every year. 2024 is the fifth year of a five-year AEP Foundation grant for STEM after-school grants to FFA chapters in the state.

Thanks in large part to Indiana Michigan Power and the American Electric Power Foundation, the new ETHOS science center gets students excited about careers in science.

Grants to Support Education

FIRST Robotics Program

FIRST Robotics challenges students of all ages to be creative, to stretch their skills in science, math and technology, and to explore STEM careers. Students are not just building robots; they are building their futures. AEP offers competitive funding to help elementary through high school student teams build robots and compete in local, regional and international events. We support teams within our service area of 11-states with funding ranging from $250 to $6,000 depending on the robotics program level. A completed application must be submitted to be considered for the FIRST robotics grant. For more information, email community@aep.com.

Teacher Vision Grants

Help motivate your students to think creatively, step into leadership roles and address the challenges of the future. These grants of $100 to $500 support pre-kindergarten through grade 12 teachers who live or teach in the AEP service area or communities with major AEP facilities. To be considered and to learn more about the application process, send an email to community@aep.com.
