AEP's transmission is
stable; no immediate threat
seen.
Reports from late Thursday
evening show that only a few
AEP customers were affected
by the late afternoon power
outage that hit the northeastern
United States, eastern Canada,
northern Ohio and part of
Michigan.
Most of the AEP outages were
relatively minor and scattered.
In Mount Vernon, Ohio, however,
more than 14,000 customers
were without power at one
time. Those customers had
their power restored shortly
after 9 p.m. Thursday.
The trouble spots for AEP
seemed to be near interconnections
with the FirstEnergy transmission
system, which experienced
widespread outages.
Other reports from AEP note
that the company did not have
to reduce voltage in order
to protect its system.
As of Friday morning, the
number of outages within the
AEP System was below 1,000.
All of those outages seemed
to be of a routine nature.
AEP engineers continue to
closely monitor conditions
and will take appropriate
steps to protect the stability
of the transmission grid.
