Educating the Innovators of Tomorrow

We believe education is the foundation of brighter futures for our communities. Specifically, we support programs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) which hold promise of future innovations. Programs that supplement classroom learning in robotics, agricultural and horticultural technology and experimental science show our impact in the community. In fact, through the AEP Foundation we created Credits CountSM to help students gain college credits even before they complete high school and to inspire middle school students to explore STEM in the future. In addition, we are active in our communities’ schools as volunteers and mentors. Tomorrow’s innovators rely on us to show them the way. Our leadership is focused on giving teachers the resources to implement new programs and on making higher education accessible.

Thanks in large part to Indiana Michigan Power and the American Electric Power Foundation, the new ETHOS science center gets students excited about careers in science.

Kentucky Power joins Congressman Hal Rogers at Louisa Middle School to see the AEP Foundation Credits Count program boost STEM education in Lawrence County.

At Public Service Company of Oklahoma, we help the Future Farmers of America cultivate innovation and leadership.

Energy Education

We actively participate in educating the community about electric safety by providing classroom materials to teachers and by giving Teacher Vision grants to support special classroom projects.

Electric Universe

Students of all ages will enjoy a visit to the Electric Universe website.

Subjects include: safety rules; learning activities; educational games and videos; energy conservation; electrical facts about animals, the weather and the environment, the human body and astronomy; experiments; electrical generation and transmission; biographies of inventors and scientists; and career information. FIRST Robotics Grants

Innovation is a hallmark of the FIRST robotics program. FIRST robotics challenges students of all ages to be creative, to stretch their skills in science, math and technology, and to explore STEM careers. Students aren’t just building robots, they’re building their futures.

That’s why we offer competitive grants to help student teams from elementary through high school build robots and compete in local, regional and international events with applications available beginning October 1st. We support teams within our service area of 11-states with grants ranging from $250 to $6,000 depending on the robotics program level. In order to be considered for the FIRST robotics grant, a completed application must be submitted before midnight EST the fourth Friday in January with grants are announced by mid-March.
