Indiana Michigan Power

Dear Friends,

Last August, I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with fellow volunteers from Indiana Michigan Power during the United Way Day of Caring to complete much-needed maintenance work at Camp Red Cedar, which offers year-round retreats for children with autism, Down syndrome and diabetes.

At Red Cedar, a 57-acre campus just outside Fort Wayne, children participate in rock-climbing, hayrides and the organization’s signature program that offers children with disabilities the opportunity to ride horses with assistance from a certified instructor. I joined about 50 I&M volunteers to perform a deep cleaning on barns and a bathhouse, apply wood stain to several benches and a footbridge, remove wire fencing and other chores to help give this important community resource a fresh appearance and welcoming environment.

The Red Cedar project, the most recent of I&M employees’ annual volunteer work at the Allen County United Way Day of Caring, is just one example of how your hometown energy provider gives back to the communities we serve, the places where we live.

I&M is a major supporter of United Way organizations across our service territory – as well as numerous additional charitable agencies that provide educational services and assist residents with basic needs. I&M supports the value that arts and environmental organizations add to communities, and we offer financial and professional assistance to economic development agencies that help our communities grow and prosper.

In 2018, Indiana Michigan Power provided more than $2.3 million in support for charitable nonprofit and economic development organizations and initiatives throughout our service territory.

In addition, the American Electric Power Foundation contributed more than $1.9 million to nonprofit agencies in the areas we serve.

Our employees and company reach out to serve and assist our communities in many ways. In Muncie, I&M was a major sponsor of the Indiana NAACP convention. In Fort Wayne, donations from the AEP Foundation are helping to build a Science Lab for Big Brothers Big Sisters and a new home for the burgeoning Rescue Mission. In Elkhart, we are supporting a needed fitness and aquatics center. In South Bend, our employees worked side-by-side with former President Jimmy Carter to build Habitat for Humanity homes. In Buchanan, MI, Employees worked together in the United Way of Southern Michigan’s “Rake a Difference Day” to help clear leaves from yards of senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Those examples only scratch the surface of the breadth and depth of support from Indiana Michigan Power and the AEP Foundation to help build the communities we serve in Indiana and southwest Michigan. On these pages, you can see the large number and variety of agencies we help support.

Just as my colleagues and I were gratified to lend our support to helping make Camp Red Cedar shine, we are pleased to help our communities become better places. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and to show our support by giving back.

Sincerely,

Toby Thomas
President and Chief Operating Officer
