Southwestern Electric Power Company

Dear Friends,

At Southwestern Electric Power Company, our commitment to the communities we serve extends beyond keeping the lights on. We believe in the power of community and giving time and resources to ensure a bright future for all.

In 2021, our employees donated many hours to various organizations and community programs. SWEPCO and our parent company, American Electric Power, strive to make an impact by helping fund organizations and programs that improve education, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, care for our environment, grow our communities and much more.

For example, the AEP Foundation, upon SWEPCO’s recommendation, made a grant to the United Way of Greater Texarkana to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, which helps prepare children from birth to age five for kindergarten success. The program sends one book each month directly to the home of an enrolled child at zero cost to the child’s family.

In addition, the AEP Foundation’s Delivering on the Dream: Social and Racial Justice grant program provided new academic opportunities for students of color at schools and universities across communities SWEPCO serves. In Louisiana, the Southern University at Shreveport Foundation used its Foundation grant to create a STEM Academy. In Texas, the grant allowed Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins to create a summer science academy and Wiley College in Marshall to improve its STEM academic program. In Arkansas, a community-based scholarship program used its funding support to promote academic success among Latino high school students in Rogers.

We’re pleased to share the following report that highlights how SWEPCO and its employees give back to the communities in which we live and work. Moreover, we’re thankful for the privilege to work alongside you today as we light the way for a brighter tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Malcolm Smoak
President and Chief Operating Officer
Southwestern Electric Power Company
