Hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, camping -- all free for the public to enjoy on 58,800-acres of land in southeastern Ohio. We turned this former mining territory into a vibrant recreation area with over 63 million trees, 350 lakes and ponds stocked for fishing, 293 campsites. The 1400-mile Buckeye Trail also runs through this region.

Need a Permit?
Although use of our areas is free of charge, many require a permit. A permit can be obtained below, from the AEP office in McConnelsville, Ohio, the AEP corporate offices, regional offices of the Ohio Division of Wildlife, or at any of the regional sporting goods or bait stores surrounding the Recreation Areas. If visitors plan to fish or hunt, state fishing and hunting licenses are required.
Once you have downloaded and printed the permit, you must:
- Sign and date it to make it official
- Keep your permit with you while on site
It is the recreational users' as well as the hunters' and fishermen, etc. responsibility to know and respect the boundaries of this area and have all the licenses and permits needed while hunting, fishing, etc. in this area. All recreational users will be expected to respect the rights of private property owners in the area.
All recreational users are reminded that the rules and regulations for AEP's Recreation areas apply, as well as all of the state fishing and wildlife regulations. Driving off road in this area is not permitted. No ATV's are permitted.
