Carl English
Chief Operating Officer

Carl English is chief operating officer of American Electric Power. Reporting directly to the chief executive officer, he is responsible for all of the company's utility business operations and related business functions, including Regulatory Services, Environment, Safety, Health and Shared Services operations.

Prior to his current position, English was president - AEP Utilities, responsible for AEP´s commercial operations, regulatory services, and electric transmission and distribution and customer operations that serve more than 5 million customers in 11 states.

English joined AEP from Consumers Energy in Jackson, Mich., where he had been president and chief executive officer of the utility´s gas division since October 1999. Previously, he headed the utility´s statewide electric transmission and distribution operations, as well as customer service activities. He began his career with Consumers Energy in 1969. The company serves 1.7 million electric and 1.6 million natural gas customers in Michigan.

English earned a bachelor´s degree in chemical engineering in 1968 and a master's degree in business administration in 1969, both from Michigan State University.

A native of Jackson, English has been extremely active in the community throughout his career. He serves on the boards of the United States Energy Association, Directions for Youth & Families, New Albany Foundation, CompeteColumbus and the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts. He also serves on the Columbus Downtown Housing Investment Funds Board.

A resident of New Albany, Ohio, English and his wife, Linda, have two children.
