Bill Fehrman, AEP chairman, president and chief executive officer, made the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Energy's grants announced June 4, 2026, which support affordable and reliable power for customers.

“We are pleased to receive these two U.S. Department of Energy grants to support needed upgrades to our Mitchell Plant in West Virginia and our Flint Creek Plant in Arkansas. As energy demand skyrockets, we must ensure the reliability and efficiency of our baseload generation assets, which can provide dispatchable power around the clock to our customers and communities. The grants allow us to reduce cost impacts for our customers while we invest in these resources to enhance resiliency. Leveraging federal funding is an important part of our strategy to balance infrastructure investments with affordability. We thank the Trump Administration and the Department of Energy for their collaboration on this effort.”
