After more than 30 years of military service in the Army and Navy, Don Seaux wasn’t looking for just another job as retirement approached.
“I was looking for another mission,” Seaux said.
Through AEP’s participation in the SkillBridge program, he found one.
SkillBridge, a Department of War program, helps transitioning service members gain civilian work experience during the final months of military service.
At AEP, participants have opportunities to apply their leadership skills, explore career paths and build experience in a new industry.
Seaux’s military career included leadership roles supporting communications, cybersecurity and technology operations around the world.
He completed a SkillBridge internship with AEP’s Nuclear Development organization and recently transitioned into a full-time role as a program manager.
The program offered exactly what Seaux hoped for.
“The SkillBridge experience exceeded my expectations and successfully accomplished its intended purpose of bridging military service into civilian employment,” Seaux said.
Throughout his military career, Seaux learned lessons that continue to shape his approach to leadership today. The transition to AEP reinforced how those skills translate in a civilian environment.
“The program provided a valuable opportunity to apply decades of military leadership experience in a new environment while learning the business processes, governance structures and stakeholder management practices required in the private sector,” Seaux said.
Those lessons were shaped not only by the work itself, but also by the teams he served alongside. While Seaux’s military career included assignments around the world, he is quick to credit the people who made that journey possible.“If there is one lesson my military career reinforced more than any other,” Seaux said, “it is that no one serves alone.”
