As Appalachian Power celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026, a collection of historic photographs from the Logan, W.Va., area offers a window into the communities the company served during its earliest years.
Taken between 1926 and 1931, the photographs come from the collection of G.S. Nease Jr., grandfather-in-law of Bill Johnson, an Appalachian Power customer services representative. They capture a period of change across the region, as coalfield towns grew, families built their futures and Appalachian Power, then known as Appalachian Gas & Electric, helped bring electricity to a new era of growth and opportunity.
A century later, the photographs are a reminder that Appalachian Power’s story has always been about more than electricity. It’s about the people and places that have shaped the region for generations.
