Kate Sturgess

Senior Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer
Kate Sturgess is senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer for American Electric Power. She is responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial reporting and regulatory accounting services.
Prior to joining AEP, Sturgess was vice president and controller for Edison International and its subsidiary Southern California Edison.
Before joining Edison International, she held positions of increasing responsibility with National Grid USA, a subsidiary of National Grid plc., including vice president within the company’s Global Finance Transformation organization and vice president, U.S. controller.
Before National Grid, Sturgess was a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York and London, where she specialized in audits of publicly traded companies in the power and utilities sector. She began her career in 2006 as an associate with the company.
Sturgess received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Sheffield in England and is a chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Sturgess currently serves as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Emerging Issues Task Force. She also serves as the chair of Edison Electric Institute’s Executive Accounting Committee. Sturgess is a board member at the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
