Job Description
What you’ll do:
The Line Servicers at I&M/AEP perform all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. They provide first response to trouble calls; investigate, correct and clear trouble, and provide assistance to construction and repair crews, as required. All items apply to overhead and underground, as applicable.
The employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.
- Analyze and take corrective action with respect to trouble calls on all types of transmission and distribution circuits and equipment.
- Investigate trouble calls; patrol and inspect lines; locate, clear and repair faults on lines and equipment. Refuse line and transformer cutouts; repair and adjust street light control equipment; install and remove transformers, meters and services.
- Coordinate and/or conduct complex circuit switching and restoration of service resulting from trouble calls.
- Work with hot line equipment on energized circuits for emergency repairs or routine maintenance of facilities.
- Independently interface with emergency forces, such as fire and police departments, to accomplish safe trouble call restoration.
- Communicate effectively with customers and formulate a plan designed to serve their needs as well as the Company’s in resolving trouble calls. Inform customer if trouble is located in customer’s wiring or equipment; investigate radio and TV interference.
- Install, remove, operate and maintain residential, commercial and industrial facilities, both overhead and underground.
- Disconnect and connect meters; read in and read out meters.
- Operate line switches; operate switches and replace fuses in stations; request, make and accept line and station clearances.
- Perform similar or less skilled work.
- Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience as Line Mechanic A, Lineman A or the equivalent experience as determined by the Company or (for internals) 480 tracked and verifiable hours stepped up to a Line Servicer role.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Class A CDL is required.
Other Requirements:
- Shall have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Lineman A or the equivalent and shall qualify through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
- A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.

$57.16-57.16 USDThe Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
