Job Summary

Each position in the Engineering Technologist job family is responsible to the assigned supervisor to perform complex work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology knowledge in a safe, cost-effective and efficient way.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:


Responsible for performing work activities and projects that require the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economical manner to accomplish assigned objectives. Responsible for developing technical guidance for the installation, operation, and maintenance of Protection and Control (P&C) equipment for all transmission and distribution facilities. Ensuring the collation of feedback and timely resolution of concerns from the TFS P&C Operations team. Building a high level of collaboration between TFS P&C Policies and Procedures, P&C Engineering Standards, and Energy Delivery Operations to develop the best processes and procedures possible and communicate any new changes to the TFS P&C Operations team. Responsible for developing processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal regulatory and local commission requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:


TFS P&C Policies and Procedures team member who is responsible for the following activities:

  • Improved capital utilization with a focus on ensuring the highest level of reliability of P&C assets:
    • Lead the development of system-wide protection system commissioning standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering, and control applications.
    • Lead process improvement efforts to ensure existing procedures are as streamlined as possible while identifying all known potential defects.
    • Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout, and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment.
    • Review, evaluate, and provide comments and recommendations on protection and control design standards.

  • Improved infrastructure reliability through the development of maintenance programs and procedures:
    • Lead the development of system-wide protection system maintenance and commissioning standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering, and control applications.
    • Lead process improvement efforts to ensure existing procedures are as streamlined as possible while identifying all known corrective issues.
    • Provide general P&C technical support, including technical interfaces with Engineering, Field Services, Project Management, Operations, Telecom, and Construction Management.

  • Improved compliance and operational readiness:
    • Develop strategy documentation in support of activities related to NERC PRC Standards. Support the continuous development, strategy, and configuration of the asset management database to ensure compliance with NERC Standards reporting and internal data requirements.

  • Improved communication, training, and feedback utilization from TFS P&C Operations team:
    • Lead the TFS P&C feedback committee responsible for collating information from the TFS P&C Operations team to resolve issues or improve processes and standards.
    • Develop and deploy mechanisms to effectively communicate all critical information to the TFS P&C Operations teams. These mechanisms include, but are not limited to, mLearning (Microlearning), Community of Practice presentations, announcements, and train-the-trainer efforts.

Provide field support and training on policies, procedures, and documentation requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology* in a program accredited by ABET**.


*A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.
**ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
