Job Description

What You'll Do:

This position participates in the design, installation, configuration, and performance analysis of AEP's Wireless/Distribution telecommunications networks and systems.

  • Possess an intermediate understanding of communications technologies and demonstrates the ability to perform on routine tasks.
  • Perform project management duties on routine assignments independently. Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves network problems of moderate complexity.
  • Participate in design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems.
  • Follow policies, practices, procedures, standards, and company rules relative to assignments.
  • Comply with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
  • Prepare cost estimates for engineering assignments using established guidelines.
  • Perform documentation of project work using established guidelines.
  • Perform network assignments.
  • Analyze network performance, troubleshoot when necessary, and provide resolutions to technical problems.
  • Follow standard workflow for engineering projects.
  • Apply economic analysis techniques and adhere to budgeting and approval processes in project development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
  • Learn AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of one's organizational unit.

Where You'll Work:

On-Site in Tulsa, OK

This role is posted in a range. The minimum qualifications below are for Grade 07 Telecom Consultant.

What We're Looking For:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study or
  • Associate's degree in field mentioned above with two (2) years of relevant work experience or
  • HS diploma/GED with four (4) years of relevant work experience required.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.

Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Valid Driver's License is Required.

Other Skills Needed:

  • Understand and follow policies, practices, procedures, standards, and rules of the company and complies with the regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
  • Coordinate and monitor work activities, using approved applications and tools, for projects as required to perform routine engineering tasks.
  • Prepare cost estimates for the routine engineering assignments using established guidelines.
  • Perform documentation of project work using established guidelines.
  • Learn AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their individual organizational unit.
  • Adhere to AEP's budgeting and approval processes as part of annual planning and project planning. Perform routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher level employees.
  • Utilize basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
  • Apply economic analysis techniques in project development and approval.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities by enabling more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
  • Follow the standard workflow for routine engineering projects.

Occasional travel required.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • RF System Engineering and Deployment, including: Conventional & Private LMR Radio, Public LTE, meshing networks, point-to-multipoint grid SMART networks, Satellite, WiFi, and Fiber connected devices. Covering projects such as DACR, VVO, AMI, Street lights, End of line measuring devices, Rural Broad Band, Distributed Generation, Underground networks, Tower lighting, Field Mobility, Distribution SCADA Network (DSN) and Transmission SCADA backhaul.
  • Experience designing and engineering wireless networks
  • Experience using RF propagation modeling software to engineer wireless network solutions
  • Network/IP based experienced (networks/devices)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other groups as a team player
  • Ability to procure parts and equipment, as needed
  • Possess the multi-tasking ability necessary to manage and engineer multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient PC Skills, including: database, graphics, spreadsheet, word processing, and email.

Compensation Range:

$72,380.00-90,474.50 USD
