Job Summary
Responsible for performing intermediate level geotechnical drilling work and related activities associated with the maintenance and operation of Company drilling equipment. Scope of work will include, but not limited to, execution of drilling activities for coal and limestone pile inventory and/or Geotech work which could include monitoring well installation and maintenance, soil boring, camera inspections, inclinometer and piezometer installation, etc.Job Description
What You’ll Do:
Assist in performance of soil drilling, rock coring, and sampling per specifications, drawings, or surveys provided by others.
Maintain drilling and boring logs, classify and label samples in accordance with Unified Soil Classification System.
Prepare field samples and ship to the Civil Engineering Laboratory or to consultants as required.
Operate and maintain the drilling rigs and associated drilling equipment.
Take samples for each boring location as specified.
Assist in performance of the installation of piezometers, inclinometers, and observation / monitoring wells.
Perform minor field maintenance on drill rigs and drilling equipment. Make recommendations regarding replacement or refurbishing of drilling equipment/tooling.
Assist in performance of Coal Pile Inventories (CPI). Process includes the drilling and sampling of coal piles, weighing and recording of retrieved samples, and data entry and manipulation within the Civil Lab CPI database.
What We’re Looking For:
Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected > 50 % of the time Physical demand level is Heavy and requirements details are listed below:
Travel 90% of the time throughout AEP service territory (within 11 states)
Overnight Travel
Overtime required as needed
Exposure to environmental conditions such as weather, hazardous conditions and uneven terrain
Ability to operate vehicles, heavy equipment and mechanized devices
Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds
What You’ll Get:
CE Driller (Grade 4): $25.23 - $31.55 per hour
Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED
Experience Requirement: 2 years drilling and/or construction experience
Required License(s)/Certification(s): Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's license within 6 months as required by the Federal Department of Transportation with tanker endorsement
CE Driller Senior (Grade 5): $29.64 - $37.05 per hour
Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED
Experience Requirement: 8 years drilling and/or construction experience
Required License(s)/Certification(s): Commercial Driver's license as required by the Federal Department of Transportation with tanker endorsement. Where applicable, state drilling license required. Examples - Indiana & West Virginia.
