Job Summary
This position is with the Meteorology team. Weather is one of the key drivers of energy commodities (electric, natural gas, etc.) and forecast changes can immediately affect the direction of future prices. Temperature can also drive electric load, therefore hourly forecasts are critical to producing accurate load forecasts. Lastly severe weather and tropical cyclones can significantly impact AEP's utilities and restoration efforts. Accurate forecasts and effective communication of such events are necessary. Early hours and some weekend/holiday work are required.Job Description
Note: This position is posted in a range. The final grade and compensation offered will be based on the successful candidate's education, experience, and relevant skills.
What you'll do:
- Forecast weather out to 10 days for key power market load centers. Effectively communicate the forecast and the confidence level to appropriate staff.
- Identify changes in computer model guidance and forecast expectations. Articulate these trends to appropriate groups in a timely manner. Provide professional opinions regarding the validity of the trends.
- Provide input & oversight to optimize hourly forecast performance, tropical forecasts and 11-15 day outlooks.
- Assure the issuance of timely and effective AEP Weather Alerts and AEP Hurricane Alerts. Lead conference calls for critical event.
- Interact with management at various levels of the organization with ease. Cultivate effective working relationships with meteorology group.

Meteorologist Associate (Grade 6): (72,380 - $90,474)
Education & Experience Requirements listed below:
- Bachelor’s in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
- Entry-level, no prior experience necessary. A completed internship is preferred.
Meteorologist (Grade 7): (85,081 - $106,353)
Education & Experience requirements listed below:
- Master's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science and at least 1 year of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science and 2 years of experience.
- Education must have included rigorous training in synoptic, mesoscale and tropical meteorology.
Other Requirements:
- Physical demand level is Sedentary
