COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 30, 2002 - Michael W. Rencheck will become president of American Electric Power’s (NYSE: AEP) Pro Serv, Inc., in early November, succeeding John R. Jones, who will retire after 36 years with AEP.

“We are fortunate to have Mike Rencheck, who has broad experience in major projects and power generation systems, to provide leadership to our Pro Serv organization,” said Robert P. Powers, AEP executive vice president - nuclear and technical services.

Rencheck has been senior vice president - engineering and region operations, AEP Pro Serv, since April 2002. AEP Pro Serv, launched in March 2000, is the non-regulated professional services subsidiary of AEP that provides a broad range of project management, environmental, engineering, construction, operations, technical services and maintenance expertise to its clients. AEP Pro Serv has offices in Columbus, Dallas and South Portland, Maine.

Rencheck joined AEP in 1998 as vice president - nuclear engineering at AEP’s Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Mich. He was named vice president - strategic business improvement at Cook plant in 2001. Previously, he held nuclear engineering and management positions at Florida Power Corp., Public Service Electric & Gas Co. and Duquesne Light Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Ohio Northern University and a master’s degree in management and computer information systems from Robert Morris College.

Jones, who joined AEP as a maintenance engineer at its Clinch River Plant in Virginia in 1966, is closely associated with major AEP engineering and construction projects, notably the nuclear-to-coal conversion of the Zimmer plant in Ohio, from the 1970s through the 1990s. Jones received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
