Throughout 2025, AEP’s operating companies made significant strides in building trust with customers through improved communication, enhanced service reliability and programs that address their evolving needs. Our employees continue to demonstrate our commitment to being a responsible and valued partner to the communities and customers we serve.
Appalachian Power: Strengthening Communities by Giving Back
Appalachian Power donated more than $2.4 million to over 80 organizations in 2025. Those funds helped first responders in more than 20 counties and municipalities acquire essential equipment such as a gear decontamination washer, drones and rescue equipment. Additionally, the funds helped 25 organizations enhance access to affordable, nutritious food, and $250,000 was earmarked for essential housing repairs.
Kentucky Power: Employees Making a Difference Across Our Communities
Throughout 2025, Kentucky Power employees volunteered to help neighbors in need and strengthen communities across the region. Employees helped reduce food insecurity by contributing to Power Up the Pantry and assisting local food banks at mobile pantries. They also spent time in classrooms reading with students and talking with job seekers at career fairs.
Employees visited senior centers, helped with the Senior Games and joined the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Others rang bells for the Salvation Army, participated in community parades, repaired homes for flood victims through Appalachia Reach Out and joined community cleanups across the region.
AEP Ohio: Advancing Reliability Through Comprehensive System Inspections
AEP Ohio launched its 2025 Reliability Initiative to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages. By May, crews successfully completed all inspections, assessing more than 2,500 miles of power lines, 24,500 poles and 300,000 pieces of equipment.
Engineering teams are designing and planning repairs for about 45,000 pieces of equipment. Lineworkers continue making upgrades and repairs to equipment, including poles, crossarms, pieces of protection cutout equipment and animal protection devices. AEP Ohio is leveraging drone technology to inspect equipment and identify and repair issues before outages occur.
Indiana Michigan Power: Delivering Reliability with Smart Technology
Indiana Michigan Power has taken steps to serve customers better by strengthening grid components and adding smarter technology with the goal of providing safe, reliable and affordable power. I&M has achieved industry-leading reliability:
- Fewer Outages: Since 2019, outages are down nearly 50%. By using data to target the areas that need the most attention, upgrades optimize “customer bang for the buck.”
- Faster Restoration: When outages happen, restoration times are 55% faster due to more efficient processes and smart technology that will automatically reroute and restore power in minutes.
- Fewer Tree-Related Outages: One of the leading causes of outages — trees and branches falling on lines — has dropped nearly 20% over the past four years due to proactive tree-trimming.
SWEPCO: Improving Customer Comfort and Efficiency Through Weatherization
Through SWEPCO’s Weatherization Program, 3,394 customers received energy-saving improvements. SWEPCO’s $4 million investment improved customers’ efficiency and comfort, and resulted in 12.6 million kilowatt-hours saved, which is enough energy to power 1,200 homes for an entire year.
Public Service Company of Oklahoma: Expanding Generation Capacity for Rising Demand
In the summer of 2025, Public Service Company of Oklahoma finalized the purchase of the Green Country Power Plant, a 795 MW natural gas-fired generation facility. This enhances PSO’s capacity to meet the rising energy demands of its customers. Adding to PSO's generation fleet will enable cost efficiencies and insulate customers from energy price swings that are inherent within the daily spot energy market.
AEP Texas: Building Critical Transmission Infrastructure for a Growing Region
AEP Texas announced in April 2025 their plans to build one of the first 765-kV transmission line projects in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to support the growing electricity needs of the Permian Basin. The project supports the ongoing expansion and electrification of the oil and gas industry in west Texas and the growing electricity needs of the region’s communities.
