Hundreds of interns will join American Electric Power this summer, with new cohorts starting May 18 and June 1. As AEP’s Summer Internship Program continues to grow, it’s becoming an increasingly important part of the company’s early-career talent strategy.
Since last year, the program has doubled in size – an intentional investment in building a strong, sustainable pipeline of future talent. Participation has grown from 70 interns in 2024 to 120 in 2025, with projections of around 275 interns this summer. That growth reflects increased demand across the business and strong partnership in program delivery, and the 2026 program is designed to yield 126 anticipated full-time offers.
Interns receive hands-on, project-based work aligned to real business priorities, delivering measurable results for teams. The experience also includes site and field visits, networking events and structured opportunities, like virtual sessions, webcasts and picnics. These moments give the interns chances to engage with leaders and executives and help connect their work to AEP’s operations and strategy while building relationships across the enterprise.

Through close partnership between business units and the Campus team, the program emphasizes meaningful projects, intentional leadership exposure and shared experiences for all interns. The Summer Internship Program remains foundational to AEP’s broader early career talent strategy – strengthening the pipeline in alignment with AEP’s core principles and Ways of Working while continuing to deliver value across the enterprise.
