We celebrate lineworkers who work around the clock in dangerous conditions to ensure our customers have access to safe, reliable power.
It’s a job that calls for long days, late nights and time away from home — and their families carry that sacrifice right alongside them.
For Jordan and Landon Denes, that commitment has become a part of their legacy. Growing up, they didn’t understand why their father, Joe Denes, would miss family evenings or important holidays. But after following in his footsteps, they now appreciate the risks and challenges of the job.
Landon participated in a career center program that led him to join AEP Ohio out of high school. Jordan worked as a pump mechanic for 15 years before making the switch.
As a father, Joe is honored to work side by side with his sons.
“Imitation is the highest form of flattery. I’m proud of everything they do. You don’t get second chances in this job, and their bravery shows,” Joe said.
Although they try to protect their families from the sometimes-harsh realities of the work, it brings them closer together too. Jordan and Landon grew up around other children of lineworkers and now their kids have that shared experience. The Deneses not only have each other to rely on, but also the support from all other lineworker families.
The Denes men also recognize how rewarding it is serving our customers. When a storm hits and the power goes out, people look to them for help.
“When you're out there and the neighborhood is dark, everyone is depending on you. The moment you climb up, flip that switch and the lights come back on, you hear people yelling, 'Thank you.' It's a really good feeling,” said Joe.
