American Electric Power Annual Shareholders Meeting April 28

COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 19, 1999 - American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has scheduled its annual meeting of shareholders for 9:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday, April 28, in the grand ballroom of the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, 300 Court St., Charleston, W.Va.
At the meeting, AEP shareholders will be asked to:
x elect 10 directors to hold office until the next annual meeting and until their successors are duly elected;
x approve Deloitte & Touche LLP as independent auditors for 1999.
