STEWART JOINS AEP ENERGY SERVICES; WILL DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY, SERVICE PRODUCTS FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ENERGY CUSTOMERS

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 5, 2000 -- Mark W. Stewart, 46, has joined AEP Energy Services as senior vice president - energy services, reporting to Paul D. Addis, president of AEP Energy Services, Inc.
AEP Energy Services, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), markets and trades energy commodities and provides related services.
In his new position, Stewart will assume responsibility for the planning, development and execution of a new business venture that will market energy-related products and services to commercial and small industrial customers.
"We're very pleased to bring Mark on board," said Addis. "His experience in developing and introducing new products and services in emerging markets will help us a great deal in establishing this new venture."
Stewart's background includes 16 years experience with two separate units of the General Electric Co., and a six year period with the Emerson Electric Co. Fisher Controls Division.
From 1978 to 1990, Stewart worked for GE's Transportation System unit in Erie, Pa. He held a variety of positions in the mechanical and electronic design engineering and product testing areas and was eventually named manager of propulsion engineering. During this period he led the development of a propulsion system that evolved into GE's current state-of-the-art locomotive engine.
In 1990, he joined Fisher Controls as vice president, technology. At Fisher he was responsible for managing the company's applied research activities, global new product development, product engineering and manufacturing, and worldwide sales support.
In 1996, Stewart rejoined General Electric as technical director, corporate research & development in Schenectady, N.Y. In that role he worked with the aircraft engines, power systems, medical systems, transportation and industrial systems groups to identify new technologies and services to improve customer productivity.
Stewart holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
