APPELT ELECTED AEP ENERGY SERVICES' SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 20, 2000 -- Steven A. Appelt has been promoted to senior vice president - administration for AEP Energy Services Inc., where he is responsible for the administrative functions of AEP's energy trading group, including the middle office and financial accounting functions. His appointment was effective Jan. 1.
AEP Energy Services, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP), markets and trades energy commodities and provides related services.
"I'm very pleased to announce Steve's promotion,” said Paul D. Addis, president of AEP Energy Services. “His contributions to our growth have been enormous, and this promotion is richly deserved."
Appelt, 40, joined AEP Energy Services in 1998 as vice president - administration. His more than 13 years of energy trading experience include 10 years with Phibro Energy, a division of Salomon Inc., and two years as chief financial officer for Enron Oil Trading & Transportation.
Appelt holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the Illinois CPA Society.
