AUSTIN, Texas, July 11, 2001 - American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has named Julio Reyes as its new Texas state president. Reyes fills the vacancy created when Alphonso Jackson became Deputy Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Bush administration.

Reyes previously was community service manager/coordinator in McAllen for the Rio Grande Valley at AEP’s Central Power and Light subsidiary. Reyes has 27 years of experience in the utility industry. He will be based at AEP’s Texas state office in Austin.

“I am very pleased to announce Julio’s appointment,” said Tom Hagan, AEP senior vice president of governmental affairs. “Julio has an extensive utility background and a history of working with communities throughout Texas. He will be very effective as Texas state president.”

Reyes has held a variety of positions in CPL’s Pharr Operations/Design Engineering Department and CPL’s McAllen Marketing Department, as well as being an area business manager in Eagle Pass and in Brownsville. He also served as regional sales manager for the states of Oklahoma and part of Arkansas while based in Tulsa, and division manager for CPL’s Southern Division in the Rio Grande Valley.

He has spent much of his time with the utility industry representing CPL in local community organizations and assisting in local/state economic development projects. Some of these include serving on the Rio Grande Boys Scouts Council Board, the Rio Grande Partnership Board, the Texas State Technical College Foundation Board (past member), and vice president of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce Board.

Reyes attended the University of Texas/Pan American and the University of Texas/Brownsville and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management.
