Nov. 5, 2001News Release
Chillicothe, Ohio, Nov. 5, 2001 - American Electric Power (AEP) forestry and line department personnel will be conducting aerial surveys of the company’s high-voltage power lines throughout Ohio and parts of West Virginia and Kentucky for the remainder of the year.

Using helicopters, AEP performs these aerial patrols on a recurring basis to examine the lines and ensure the reliability of the company’s transmission network. The low-level flights are routine in nature and should not be a cause of concern for the public. The patrols began earlier this month and will continue, from time to time, through the end of the year.

The helicopters, which fly at relatively slow speeds, may hover for periods of time and make more than one pass over various line sections. The helicopters typically fly at approximately 25 to 50 feet above the transmission lines, and in most instances, conduct the patrols between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
