AEP Customers Complete Canada Trade Mission
Oct. 12, 1998•News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 12, 1998 -- American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) and some of its industrial customers recently returned from Canada after participating in a successful trade mission.
Seven AEP customers attended the trade event held Sept. 14-18 in Montreal and Quebec City as part of AEP's Going Global export program. AEP provides consulting services and logistical support to help its customers take part in international trade missions.
Anthony Zanetos of the It's Beautiful, LTD/Anthony-Thomas Candy Co. in Columbus, Ohio, went to Canada with the electric utility. Zanetos said the time was well spent, and he was able to develop some good leads.
"This was my first real effort into exporting, and I don't think I would have been able to get as many leads in that short of time without AEP's help. I learned something from everyone I met," Zanetos said.
"I learned some things about the packaging and language requirements. I enjoyed the receptions at the Canadian Consulate's office and was able to network with people there. I hope to get some business from this."
Also attending the trade mission were Atromick International Inc. of Columbus, Ohio; Hubco Inc. of Wheeling, W.Va.; Kyle-Stout Inc. of Wheeling, W.Va.; Fabco Inc. of Findlay, Ohio; Logan Corp. of Huntington, W.Va.; and Wayne Metal Protection Co. of Fort Wayne, Ind. Three of the companies -- Fabco Inc., Logan Corp. and Wayne Metal -- have attended previous trade events with AEP.
Zanetos and the Wayne Metal Protection Co. will also attend a trade mission in Mexico City when AEP wraps up the 1998 Going Global international trade season on Oct. 19-23. Dexter Axle of Elkhart, Ind., and Health Care Logistics of Circleville, Ohio, will also attend.
As part of AEP's export program, the company helps customers analyze a foreign market and develop international business contacts. AEP representatives schedule individual appointments with companies in the selected country, provide customers with international market research, arrange briefings, locate translators and attend the trade missions to offer on-site support.
In 1998, AEP and its customers have attended trade events in Mexico, Canada and Brazil.
