Prevent Recruitment Fraud
Protect Yourself From Recruitment Fraud
At American Electric Power (AEP), we are committed to providing a safe, transparent and trustworthy hiring experience. Unfortunately, recruitment fraud is on the rise across many industries. Scammers may impersonate legitimate companies or recruiters in an attempt to steal personal information, collect money or gain access to sensitive data.
What Is Recruitment Fraud?
Recruitment fraud occurs when individuals or groups pose as employers, recruiters or hiring managers to deceive job seekers. These scams often involve fake job postings, unsolicited emails, false employment offers or requests for personal information.
Recruitment fraud may involve:
- Fake job offers that never went through AEP’s hiring process
- Imposters claiming to work for AEP Human Resources
- Phishing emails asking for login credentials or personal data
- Requests for money, gift cards or payments for training
- Fake websites or social media accounts pretending to represent AEP
AEP never charges candidates for job applications, equipment, training or employment placements.
How to Verify an AEP Recruiter
If you are contacted by someone claiming to represent AEP, you can verify their legitimacy through the following methods:
- Check Their Email Address
Authentic AEP recruiters use the “@aep.com” or “@aepenergy.com” email domain. AEP recruiters do not use Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or other personal email accounts. - Confirm the Job Posting
All legitimate AEP job opportunities are listed on official websites: aep.com/careers, Innosource or Key Personnel. If a job does not appear on these sites, it is not a valid AEP job opening. - Verify Through Direct Contact
If you are uncertain about a communication:- Email AEP Talent Acquisition at ats_support@aep.com
- Do not call phone numbers provided in suspicious messages
- Validate Recruiter Profiles
Genuine AEP recruiters will have:- A professional LinkedIn presence
- Verified employment listed on their profile
Red Flags
Be cautious if you encounter any of the following:
- Requests for money
- Suspicious email domains
- Offers without interviews
- Poor grammar, misspellings or unprofessional tone
- Requests for sensitive information
Best Practices for Staying Safe
- Apply only through AEP’s official careers website or verified staffing agencies
- Independently verify recruiter identities
- Avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments
- Never share personal information until you are confident the hiring process is legitimate
- Trust your instincts—if something feels wrong, pause and verify
- Use cybersecurity best practices, including strong passwords and secure networks
